Beautiful February Weather

This wasn't technically part of "birthday weekend", so I thought I'd give it it's own post. The day after Leah's party, we had to put her new scooter together first thing in the morning. Since it was an absolutely beautiful day (near 70, but very windy!), we went outside to ride it. It was so nice, we spent almost 2 1/2 hours outside! We rode scooters and bikes, took a walk, played, set up our tent and had a picnic lunch. I can only imagine how hard my neighbors were laughing watching me put up the tent in that wind, but we managed! And the best part was the marathon naps the girls took after getting so much fresh air!

She was SO HAPPY to finally get a scooter!

Birthday weekend

This past weekend was "birthday weekend" in the Compton house. As many of you know, Leah and I have back to back birthdays. 4 years ago, I went in to work on my birthday (a Monday) and 2 days away from my due date. I left work that afternoon assuring my coworkers that I would be at work all week. I went home with a headache and completely exhausted, so I took a nap. I woke up in the beginning stages of labor (and then got dragged out to dinner by my husband, but that's a whole other story!) I went to the hospital late that night and Leah was born the next morning, thus creating a need for a "birthday weekend"!

We celebrated Leah's birthday with her friends at school on Thursday. Amie and I took in cupcakes and everyone sang to her. Both girls loved it!

Leah, all ready for her party at school!
Everyone singing "happy birthday" to her.
For my birthday, we went out to eat at Chili's on Friday and then Leah threw me a party on Saturday. We had a cookie cake since we'd already had cupcakes and were having more cake at Leah's birthday party.

Then, on Sunday, it was Leah's turn for a party. She opened a few presents before church (she got her very own bible to take to church) and then we had a party at the "bouncy house". It was a "Hello Kitty" theme and everyone had a blast! In the words of Leah, "best birthday ever!"

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's day everyone! Today was definitely not what I had in mind for my Valentine's day! I got up extra early to get showered and ready so that I'd be able to walk out the door at 8:30 if the pediatrician could take Amie. (Amie had developed a fever Saturday evening that continued through the weekend and was absolutely miserable! Leah developed a fever super early on Sunday morning and puked constantly for about 6 hours. However, she seemed to recover whereas Amie was still pitiful!) Anyway, I was up super early and started my day with a pounding headache. I was on the phone with the doctor at exactly 8:30 and remained on hold for 18 entire minutes! They could see her at 10:45. SO, I dropped Leah off at Grandma's then drove clear across town to the pediatrician. He diagnosed Amie with a severe ear infection. Drove back across town, threw Leah in the car, and proceeded to Walmart to grab a few groceries while we waited for the antibiotic to be filled. Got the groceries, went back to the pharmacy- still not ready. Went and waited in line to pay for the groceries, back to the pharmacy- still not ready. Waited an additional 10 minutes, finally got the medicine, than rushed home as we were now running late.We rushed into the house where I tried to get lunch ready (it was now 12:30) while trying to put groceries away and hold an inconsolable Amie. (This led to a frantic phone call for Grandma to please come over early and rescue Mommy!) Grandma arrived, fed Leah and got her ready to go to the dentist. I put Amie to bed, scarfed down a sandwich, then Leah and I were on our way.

So now Leah and I are at the dentist. Leah claimed she "loved the dentist", but was not very cooperative. We had to settle for brushing her teeth with a regular toothbrush and doing a quick floss. She would not let any instruments or even the air blower near her teeth. The did manage to get a few pictures and discovered she has a cavity! Since she was not cooperating, they said she'd have to go to a pediatric dentist to have it filled. So that's on the agenda for next week.

When we got back home, Amie was already awake and wanted Mommy to hold her. Which meant that Leah was not going to get even a rest, let alone a nap (or Mommy either). And that was the first half of our Valentine's day. But it only went up from there! Leah came downstairs with my Valentine's presents. She made me a heart shaped card, colored me a picture of Santa Claus, and "surprised" me with a chocolate rose that she sneakily purchased earlier that day at Walmart! Oh how I love that little girl! It was a beautiful day, so we went out for a little walk and ended up visiting with our neighbor for a while. When we came home, Jamie had flowers waiting. We had a romantic dinner of a frozen stir fry, the kids had grilled cheese, and we topped it off with some candy and a piece of Valentine's cake from Grandma. Leah claims it was "the best Valentine's day EVER!" I couldn't agree more!

My flowers- note the red chocolate rose from Leah. She thought it needed to be with the other flowers!

Don't forget about your underpants!

Last night I asked Leah to go pee pee before bed, just like I do EVERY night. This is usually a smooth routine for us- Leah's goes potty while I help Amie brush her teeth. No problem, right? Well last night while I'm brushing Amie's teeth, I hear Leah cry "oh, no Mommy! My underpants!" She had pulled her footie pajamas down, but neglected to pull her panties down before sitting on the potty. And once she started to go, she couldn't get it turned off again. She was so upset and mean ol' mommy, all I could do was laugh! I thought I was going to pee my underpants!

This isn't from last night, but it's a recent picture of my sweet girls in their nightly routine, getting ready for bed! I love my girls!

An eclectic dinner

I decided we would clean out the refrigerator for dinner tonight. The leftovers were starting to pile up and Jamie was taking Catie to skate practice during dinner time, so it sounded better than cooking. It resulted in a very interesting meal! Here's what we had:

I started out with some ham, corn casserole and a roll. But then Leah wanted some spinach dip and Hawaiian bread, so I added that to my meal.

Leah started out with some ham, some chicken and a roll, but here's what she actually ate: 2 rolls, part of a hot dog, spinach dip on Hawaiian bread, carrots with ranch, and some potato chips.

Amie started out with the same as Leah, but here's what she actually ate: 4 rolls dipped in ketchup (the girl LOVES ketchup!), chicken dipped in ketchup, and some potato chips.

It may sound like a horrible meal, but it was actually more successful than a lot of our dinners! And I am THRILLED that Leah likes carrots and ranch now!

My "Top 5"

The top 5 things my kids do that completely gross me out:

5. Leah's nose is constantly chapped because she sticks her tongue up it. (Yes, she can literally get her tongue into her nostril!)

4. Amie will wipe snot from her nose and wipe it around in her hands. If it's not "gooey" enough, she will add some spit to it and rub it around like hand lotion.

3. They both like to drink the bath water. If that weren't bad enough, Amie also likes to pee in the bathtub.

2. From time to time Amie will find her own snack from the trash can if I won't get her one out of the cupboard.

1. They like to brush their teeth together. When Leah spits into the sink, Amie will scoop it up in her toothbrush and then use it to brush her teeth.

5 Reasons I love my kids (not the top 5, just a few of many reasons):

5. Because of all the disgusting things they do (see above!).

4. When they think I'm not looking, they show how much they love each other.

3. They make me laugh all day long with the funny things they say and do.

2. They're like little angels when they're asleep- so peaceful!

1. Because they hug me and call me "Mommy"
